JITTERBUG Cell Phone Recall Notice – fail to call 911
On May 22, 2009, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a recall alert along with Jitterbug’s and Samsung’s, the manufacturer of the Jitterbug cell phone, issuance of a voluntary safety recall notice indicating that 160,000 of the Jitterbug cell phones that were sold between March 2008 and May 2009 may not be able to call 911 in case of an emergency when the phone is outside of the Jitterbug calling service area. The recall notices state that owners of potentially affected phones will be notified by mail of what they need to do to correct the problem.
If you have not received a notice by mail and are unsure whether or not your phone may be part of this recall, you should contact Jitterbug customer service at (800) 733-6632 or Samsung at (866) 304-4980.
Since the Jitterbug cell phone was designed to be easy to use and was targeted to the senior citizen market, many senior citizens may have purchased this phone with the primary intent to contact 911 in case of an emergency. With this in mind, it is important to get the word out to any Jitterbug owners you know just in case they did not register the phone in order to receive any safety and recall notices.
