10 Traffic Fatalities in Virginia During Christmas Weekend 2009
Virginia State Police is reporting that during the four day 2009 Christmas holiday weekend (December 24-27, 2009) that 10 people died in eight car accidents on Virginia’s roads which is higher than the six people that died during the Christmas “statistical period” in 2008. Of the 10 people that died last weekend, eight of the individuals were reported as not wearing a seat belt and 2 of the accidents were due to drunk driving.
No one wants to see a family suffer from the loss or severe injury of a loved one because of a traffic crash, especially during the holidays. As Virginians begin to make plans for New Year’s, we can’t stress enough the importance of all drivers and passengers to make safe, responsible decisions when getting into a vehicle. Buckle up, obey speed limits, and never drink and drive. – Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police Superintendent
